It's certainly possible to stick with The Plan at certain fast food restaurants. For example:


Choose the lunch salad and remember to avoid the croutons and use the dressing only as a dip for the fork. The insides of a couple of grilled chicken sandwiches, minus the bread and dressing, would also be fine.


a couple or three plain baked potato with seasonings would be fine. You could also choose baked beans, being careful to drain away all the manufactured sauce. A fine combination, incidentally, is a baked potato which you "stuff" yourself with the drained beans.


yes, it's possible to stay on The Plan even in a restaurant that fries most of its food. Just order the "original recipe" chicken with plenty of paper napkins. Remove every bit of skin and blot the grease off the surface of the chicken. You can also have their baked beans (drained, of course) along with their corn-on-the-cob, as long as you blot up any margarine.

When ordering in restaurants, be sure to ask not to get sauces and gravy.

Sometimes, you may be stuck with the choice of eating something off The Plan or not eating at all. You will be surprised, after being on The Plan for several weeks, how easy it is to skip manufactured food. But if that can't be done, remember the most important fallback rule: if you must leave The Plan, choose something low in fat or with no fat, and is the least "manufactured."

Just remember our Up the Chain priniciple. If all you must eat something manufactured, choose something that is closest to its natural state. Very often, you can make this decision by considering the number of ingredients that comprise the manufactured food.

Eating a high-fat meal can set the stage for a relapse, especially early in your conversion to The Plan. High-fat meals should be avoided at all costs, just like someone dependent on alcohol must not take a single drink. This cannot be overemphasized
